The Premise of Drone

Drone is an alias for Carmine Ponzi, an expert hitman who is forced to serve as a mob boss enforcer because he killed the son of a don in a bar fight.

He was a bad tempered former military man, but never a murderer. His sin forced him to enter into a penance – train to become a member of the Sindayu, an ancient assassin’s guild, and work for the father of the man he murdered until his debt is paid off. If he does not, his wife and kids will be killed.

Drone considers himself a good man in a bad world, much like a Hamlet. Yet with every murder he loses more of his humanity. Yet for the fate of his family, he must continue to serve his crime boss. He is a slave to him. A robot. He is a drone.

What I'm Looking For

Thanks for showing interest in my comic book script, Drone. I’m looking for a partnership with an artist to bring this to life.

This project was written in 2003 but sadly never created due to failed partnerships with two artists. Both were very talented and were capable of phenomenal work. Yet neither had the maturity (or work ethic) to actually create the project. This takes work and is not all fun and games. I wish them both the best.

I will give you 100 percent effort. I ask the same off you. I’ve already begun to do my part. Can you do yours? My goal is simple. To make money and to make a great comic. That’s as simple as it gets.

I’m not looking for an employee. I’m looking for a partner. As a journalist by trade, I’ve worked with editors my entire career and have a great understanding of collaborating on projects. I write panels sparingly. I often write scripts. I leave it to the artist to decide how to draw.

This is not a superhero genre. I life to refer it to as an “exaggerated action” such as Sin City or 300. No one flies or shoots laser beams out of their eyes. While I try to incorporate a lot of philosophy into the dialogue, its really just a fun "shoot em up" type of story.

Creative ideas are welcome. After all, we’re partners! If you’re interested, draw me a sketch of Drone in a portrait or action shot. After that, I’ll send you a script, and you can decide if you want to work with me.

I feel I’m a good writer with no one to draw my work. If you fee you are a great artist with nothing to draw….well, come find me. mperrota@yahoo.com

Main Character List

Name: Carmine Ponzi

Alias: Drone

Organization: Sindayu assassin, exclusive to Don Mascone

Description: Early thirties, he is Italian but not ethnic looking

Background: Ponzi was a heavy drinker with a mean attitude and was known around the local bars and pool halls. He grew up with a strict father who often beat him. He ran away and joined the military. Shortly after his discharge, Ponzi killed a man in a bar fight, Mascone's son. Mascone initially tried to have Ponzi killed, but Ponzi killed a large number of Mascone’s men in the process. Realizing that he was a valuable asset, Mascone put Ponzi on a suicide mission to kill one of his biggest rivals. Ponzi somehow survived and completed the mission. Impressed, Mascone decided to keep Ponzi as his personal assassin, and sent him to Sicily for a year to train. Ponzi re-emerged as Drone, a nameless assassin that is fully loyal to Mascone. Any acts of rebellion would lead to continued attacks on Drone and more importantly, the attempted murder of his wife and two children. Drone is one of the city’s finest assassins and is unclear if his debt can ever be paid off in full. Mascone staged Ponzi's death so his identity can remain anonymous.

Name: Gussieppe Mascone

Alias: Don Mascone

Organization: Head of the Mascone crime family for 30 years

Description: Mid to late fifties

Background: Mascone is part of a two century old Mafia family that originated in Sicily. He took over the reigns in his twenties, when his father was murdered (possibly by another Italian crime family). He is driven by greed and power. He was distraught when his son was killed in a barfight by Carmen Ponzi. Initial attacks to kill Ponzi failed, and he later realized that he could be a powerful ally. He used Ponzi’s family as a bargaining chip and enslaved Ponzi to be his personal Sindayu assassin. There are four other Italian families in Lemoria Island, and they have formed a partial truce to fend off new crime families such as the Fourth Reich (Neo-Nazis), Red Scare (Russians), the Emishi (Japanese), Biker Gangs and Colombians (Biker or Colombian gangs yet, and there can easily be other gangs involved). The Mafia’s power in Lemoria Island city is slowly evaporating to these new gangs.

Name: Jack Burkett

Alias: Sgt. Burkett

Organization: Sgt. in the police department

Description: Late 30s, early 40s, slightly overweight. Never clean shaven

Background: Burkett has been a cop in this city since his early 20s. He is an honest cop and is one of the few that are not on the take. He has a theory that the city is full of experienced assassins, and is obsessed with capturing Drone (although he respects his work). He was not to keen on receiving a new partner, Samantha Lyons, but soon realizes she is a great addition to the police force.

Name: Samantha Lyons

Alias: None

Description: Mid-to-late 20’s, brown-red hair, pony tail, attractive but not a bombshell, athletic

Background: Lyons is a new addition to the police force. She served with the armed forces for several years and had a distinguished career, notably in recent battles in the Middle East. She sometimes has a chip on her shoulder, is cute but not gorgeous and is eager to succeed

Chronicle Sample

Well i'm not going to just give away the issue plotlines, but here are two. Remember, these names/ideas are copyrighted and is against the law to use them as your intellectual property.

DRONE OUTLINE

CHRONICLE 1 – In our first issue, we get introduced to Drone in an all night convenient store. He was minding his own business but gets forced to dispatch of some thugs quickly to show to our audience how deadly and cold blooded he is forced to be – his only option is to stay alive no matter what. In the next scene, Sgt. Jack Burkett and Samantha Lyons are informed of their partnership for the first time. Burkett is a grumpy, yet funny character, and this scene serves as comic relief. Drone then has a flashback to his youth and his troubled relationship with his father, and his killing of Mascone’s son.

CHRONICLE 2 – The opening scene of the second issue is Drone assassinating a target assigned to him by Don Mascone, and his meeting with Mascone afterwards to collect his money. In this issue, we get to know Burkett more as he investigates the hit Drone just committed, where he admits his feelings of being an outcast on the police department because he feels everyone else is on the take. It is also the first appearance of Steve Sherman, the irritating member of the media who has constant tension with Burkett. It is also the first appearance of two other Sindayu hitmen, Whiplash and Scythe. A faceless and nameless figure, not revealed throughout the early part of the series, hires the two men on a contract to kill Don Mascone. Drone then flashes back to Mascone’s men kidnapping his wife and kids, and how he led a psychotic rage through his mansion until he found his family held at gunpoint, and he was forced to make a deal which changed his life forever.
